Obituary for Wayne L. Jones
South Glens Falls/ Avon Park, FL
Wayne L. Jones, 80, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023, after a brief but courageous battle at home with his loving family by his side.
Born on June 5, 1943, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Raymond and Hazel (Nason) Jones.
Wayne graduated from South Glens Falls High School in 1961, where he played basketball and later passed his love for the sport on to his girls. Wayne earned his associate degree from SUNY Cobleskill in 1963.
On April 4, 1964, Wayne married the love of his life, Lorraine Swears, at the South Glens Falls Methodist Church.
He retired from Glens Falls National Bank as a Senior Vice President of Operations after 30 years of service.
Wayne enjoyed stained glasswork, going to the casino, playing golf, cards with friends and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Wayne is predeceased by his brother, Dale Jones and his sister, Rita (Jones) Kopp.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Lorraine; his children, Kelly (John Myers) Jones, Susan (George) LaFontaine; his grandchildren, Anna Daly, Elizabeth Daly, Ian Myers, Emma Myers; a great grandson, Benjamin Gram; his brother, William (Elaine) Jones; his sister-in-laws, Lynda Jones, Joan (Ernest) Gates, Mary (Clifford) Steele; his brother-in-law, Almon (Karen) Swears; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
A funeral service will be conducted following the calling hours at 1pm at the funeral home with Rev. Bruce Hazard, Pastor of the Fortsville United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow at the Southside Cemetery.
