Obituary for Wilfred Willard "Pop" James

Wilfred Willard "Pop" James
Wilfred “Punk” Willard James
September 11, 1924 – March 13, 2014
We would like to tell you about the greatest man in our lives – our “Pop”. Pop proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, worked on the D & H Railroad, and for the Town of Moreau Highway Department. He faithfully plowed the streets of South Glens Falls so, we believe, his grandchildren would not miss a day of school. While we are proud of his service, we think in Pop’s instance it’s his legacy that should be honored.
Pop was a man who stepped into the role of father, and eventual grandfather and great-grandfather, with a ready-made family. He loved his wife, Allene, with all his heart and remained by her side until her passing in 2004. Pop was a rock for our entire family. Over the years he lent a helping hand with house renovations, apartment and house moving, and gardening tips. All with the strength and endurance of a man half his age. Pop never complained. He was the most selfless man we have ever had the privilege of knowing. He was very witty whose mind was always as sharp as a tack. He continued cracking jokes even as his passing drew near.
His legacy to us was being there for the ones you love in good times and bad. Be there to lend a helping hand even though your schedule is busy. Remember when you are feeling down - there are always those who are suffering more. Above all else keep your sense of humor. His quiet dignity and strength humbled us.
Pop joins his wife Allene, his son Harold Wimette and grandson Harold Wimette, Jr. “Little Harold” and his many brothers and sister in his passing. His son, Kenneth Wimette and his companion Wendy Letis and daughter, Joan Wimette Crouser and husband Bruce Crouser along with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren wish to send a heartfelt “Thank You” to the staff of Tower 6 at Glens Falls Hospital and to The Community Hospice of Saratoga, who enable our Pop to pass with dignity. We ask that you join us in honoring Pop’s memory by “paying it forward” by sharing a kind smile, lend a helping hand or by visiting a loved one and sharing a joke or two! We love you and will miss you, Pop!!
At Pop’s request there are no formal services. Arrangements are under the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. To leave online condolences or to view Pop’s Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
