South Glens Falls and Argyle
William F. Steffen, 87, of Townline Rd. passed away at home on Tuesday November, 8, 2016 with his son by his side.

Born on March 18, 1929 in The Bronx, he was the son of the late, William and Helen (Crowley) Steffen.

Bill graduated from Bogota High School, NJ, and was a member of the 1947 State Champion Baseball team. After high school he attended Trenton State Teaching College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.

William was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Queensbury.

Bill loved being an educator and spent almost his entire career at Tanglewood Elementary School in South Glens Falls.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Mechanic during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1955. In 1953, Jeanne Poinsett left her home to be with William and they were married on March 17, 1953 at the Naval Air Station, Barbers Point, Hawaii and they spent 56 loving years together until her passing in 2009.

Most of all Bill enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved camping trips to Ricker Pond in Vermont during his summer breaks, but was always happy to get back to his passion, teaching. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife after retirement, taking numerous train trips around the country.

In addition to his parents, Bill is predeceased by his wife, Jeanne (Poinsett) Steffen and his beloved King Charles, Cavalier Spaniel, “Bertie”.

Survivors include his three children, William, his wife, Refilwe and son, Atiishe, James, his wife, Trish and daughter Zaya Jeanne, of Argyle, NY and Carol Cuddy and daughter, Quinlan, of Roanoke, VA, his brother, Robert and his wife, Sharon, of Magnolia, TX; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
