Richard Smith

I want to share my deepest sympathy to Nancy, Stephanie and family. I am so sorry to learn of Lyle’s passing, he was a good friend and I unfortunately heard the news too late to attend his services. However please accept my prayers of comfort for his soul and I will be thinking of his family during these days of remembrance. To the world Lyle Purinton might be just another person but to those of us who knew and loved him, Lyle was an extraordinary man. Fair, honest and firm in his dealings. Lyle was always there for us, with a friendly smile, ready to help and with a genuine concern. Lyle was simply one of the good guys, gentle, mild, with a real keen sense of humor. I met Lyle many years ago when I came to Saratoga County as the County Agent. His outgoing personality, genuine nature and more importantly his love of agriculture made him an instant friend. Farming shared a special place in his heart. Farming served as a template for the very essence of Lyle’s life. Lyle had time for all and always willing to share that sense of humor and smile which made for troubles to seem small and made fond memories that will last. Lyle had a sincere and warm heart. He enjoyed a good laugh and never missed a chance at letting laughter replace tears. Even in His darkest hour, his ability to laugh at himself was such a precious personal quality so often lacking in today’s society. Lyle and I had many “heart to heart conversations” at his farm throughout everything that came his way he remained a genuine guy. He said what he meant and meant what he said. He thought before he spoke and always spoke from his heart. I remember him as a man who spoke honestly to say something and not just to be heard. He valued his friends and was valued by his friends. To me one of Lyle’s lasting qualities remains the fact that he was “right with everyone”, what I mean simply,” Lyle was a consistent friend. He was easy to be with and enjoyable to be around. By in large Lyle’s efforts throughout life were always directed towards family and farming. He knew what hard work was and worked hard at whatever he chose to do. He believed like so many of his generation in that anything worth doing was worth doing right. I would be remiss if I failed to mention his dedication to the helping young people with their interest in agriculture. He made 4-H animals available to individuals who desired Dutch Belted cattle to show and show great interest in their successes too. Lyle’s life serves us all as one to admire and try to emulate ours after. I feel blessed to have known Lyle and thankful for the friendships we shared I trust that if we all remember him with warmth in our hearts and a smile on our lips and he will always be among us. May the Grace of God’s promise and peace be with Lyle’s soul and that His love, understanding, and comfort be with Lyle’s beloved family and friends. Richard Smith former Dairy Agent
