Christmas Day Snow Storm

We had lived across the street from Barb and Kirby for a year and had become aquainted. But the Christmas day 2 foot snow storm was really when we became long lasting friends.  My husband's parents had come over Christmas morning bright and early and opened presents with us then headed back to Ballston Spa to get a jump start on our Christmas day dinner.  We went about our morning straightening up and getting ready to head to Ballston Spa.  Not sure why we did not think the storm would be so bad, maybe in all the Christmas excitement we did not really pay attention but when we went to leave we made it only as far as the entrance to the Townhouses at McGregor and turned around as we could only go 5 miles per hour and could see nothing in the blowing snow.  We headed back and called Mom and said we weren't going to make it.  So we proceded to dig around in our frig and freezer to prepare our own Christmas day feast as the snow kept piling up.  We sat at our kithen table looking over at the Huestis's glowing light coming from within and wondered what they were up to and if we should call or intrude at Christmas, since it was just the two of us and it wasn't feeling very Christmasy without family and friends around.  Suddenly, Kirby's garage door opens and we see Kirby decked out in snow gear fire up his snowblower in the garage (about a 12-15 inches by now).  My husband looks at me and says I should probably go out and help as our plowers wont be making it through any time soon if we get as much snow as they say.  I nod, my husband gets up and prepares.  Meanwhile I watch Kirby from my window.  He proceeds to snowblow a straightline out his garage across the street, up our driveway and up against our garage. Then some how menuevers the snowblower around and heads back snowblowing back to his garage.  He then goes into his garage shuts off the snowblower and heads back inside.  I yelled to my husband, "Hold on Kirby just stopped and went back inside"  Then our phone rings.  Michael answers and Kirby says "Hey I just cleared a path, you want to come over and Holiday with us?"  From that night on I think  there was not a week that went by that we did not have dinner at their house or ours at least 2-3x a week.  Best neighbors ever!  Both with hearts of gold! Will forever be in our hearts!.  Mike and Babs Donlon
