Obituary for Joan C. Inman (Counsell)

Durkeetown, Fort Edward

Joan Counsell Inman, 74, of County Rt. 46, died January 19, 2009 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born November 6, 1934 in Acushnet, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Hardman) Counsell.

Joan graduated from New Bedford, Massachusetts High School and subsequently, in 1955, from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. In 1954 she married Charles Inman in New Bedford, MA and moved with him to the Glens Falls area from LeRoy, NY three years later.

She was employed for nineteen years as Charge Nurse at the Argyle Pleasant Valley Infirmary, and did volunteer work for the Red Cross at bloodmobiles and eye clinics.
Joan was a Hyde Museum member and volunteer for 35 years, a member and president of the Modern Mrs. Craft group, and was a trustee of the Fort Edward Public Library from 1999 to the present. She also served on the Town of Fort Edward Board of Ethics.

A member of the Christ Church, Methodist of Glens Falls, Joan, in addition to singing in its choir, served as church trustee and president of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of and librarian for the Mastersingers, and later the Adirondack Voices, and was on the board of the latter organization.
In addition of gardening and international travel, she greatly enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Wings Falls Quilt Guild and the Highland Quilters of Argyle.

Joan is survived by her husband and three daughters, Elizabeth Inman of Clifton Park, Gretchen Inman of Chelsea, MA and Jennifer Mobarak of San Francisco, CA as well as four grandsons, and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be conducted 10:00am Saturday (Jan. 24, 2009) at the funeral home, with the Rev. Phil Richards, pastor of the Christ Church, Methodist of Glens Falls, officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Fort Edward.
