The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Frederick Sullivan can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

The Gorp

Fred and I worked together at Adirondack Fish and Frozen foods.  One Friday after we had made over 70 deliveries to restaurants all the way to Plattsburg we were asked to make a delivery to the Black Angus restaurant on the Bolton road.  Harry Liner (one of the owners of Adirondack) had already loaded a small panel truck that we had named the "Gorp."  Harry said he would give us twenty dollars to make the delivery.  The Gorp was in terrible shape.  Half of the lights didn't work and once you got the truck running, you didn't turn it off for fear that it wouldn't start.  The truck would never pass an inspection and besides, it didn't matter since it wasn't registered.  Nobody wanted to drive it Fred said he wasn't going to drive, but that he would go with me.  We agreed and drove to the Black Angus.  The parking area was behind the restaurant.  The driveway was extremely steep.   After we had made the delivery we started to head home.  However, the Gorp didn't have enough power to make it up the steep grade to the highway.  By then the parking lot was completely full accept for one small spot near a large tree.  Finally, after trying for several minutes I backed up as far as I could and told Fred to hold on.  I got going as fast as we could.  We almost got to the top of the driveway when the bucket seat I was sitting in came loose and I ended up in the back of the Gorp.  I can still see the look on Fred’s face as the Gorp came flying down the driveway and somehow made a miraculous turn into the only vacant spot hitting the tree and caving in the double doors.  We didn’t say anything for several long seconds.  Then Fred looked at me and asked, "You wanna tried that again?"  Fred was a great guy and a good friend.
