SOUTH GLENS FALLS

Russellan (Rusty) Carol Canfield Hayes, age 73, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017. At her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on June 3, 1943, in Glens Falls, NY, Carol was the daughter of the late Russell Canfield and Irene Case, and her husband Lloyd Gravelle.

Carol graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1961. She was very active in school and participated in the drama club, choir, band, majorettes and art classes.

On September 30, 1961, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Hayes. They shared their love for each other, raised their three daughters, and were always each other’s best friend for over 55 wonderful years.

Carol held many after school jobs, including employment with Harold’s Country Kitchen, and later on, the Clothing Fashion Shop. She also worked at GE in both Hudson Falls and Fort Edward as a winder; at First National Bank as a teller; for banquets and weddings as a waitress; and for both Hudson Falls and Fort Edward Schools as a teaching assistant.

Carol was a member of the Rosary Alter Society at St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls, as well as taught Sunday school and sang in the adult choir. She would help anyone who needed it and was always there for everyone. She also was a volunteer at the Glens Falls Hospital for 27 years, and enjoyed cooking, camping, spending time with family and friends, and going to Saratoga Racino with her friends.

In addition to her parents and step-father, Carol is predeceased by her grandparents, James and Mildred Sabia; her brother, John Canfield, and her uncle, Leslie Harrington.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Jack Hayes; her daughters, Robyn Hart and her husband, Jim of Queensbury, Jacquie Richards and her husband, Mark of Fairbanks, AK, and Nichole Brown and her husband Bill of Fort Edward; her grandchildren, A.J., Ryan and Kye Hart, Noah and Aaron Richards, and Morgan and Taylor Brown; her great grandchildren, Peyton, Blake and Carter Hart of Queensbury, and Chloe and Hayden Hart of Schenectady; her brother, William Gravelle, and his wife, Sharon and family of Tennessee; her sister-in-law, Rosie Canfield and her family of Argyle; and her uncle, Walter Case, and his wife, Dorothy of Hudson Falls.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, in St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Road, South Glens Falls, NY, with the Rev. Guy A. Childs, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the spring, at the convenience of the family.
